Development Description

Manor House was originally built as a single private residence, but has also been used as an academy / school, hospital and care home during its lifespan.  However, Urban Creation sought to convert the building to student accommodation.  Historic consents that remained extant meant that it was possible to extend the building further, although elements of the building would need to be amended in order to meet building regulations and ensure that the building could be used for the intended purpose.

Planning Process

The proposed scheme require a series of applications in order to secure extensions and alterations to the building, and also to convert its use to student accommodation.  Firstly, a Lawful Development Certificate was submitted and granted to confirm that a 2 storey extension previously permitted but never built was lawful and could be built without any subsequent consent.  As this extension was designed in the early 1980s a number of changes were required to meet current building regulations before construction works could commence.  Alongside applications for the change of use to student accommodation, CSJ Planning subsequently submitted applications for minor variations to the consented scheme to secure these necessary design amendments.
