Development Description

This scheme delivered a significant residential provision in a Grade II* Listed terrace. The proposal regard three of the terraces. 40 years ago, the buildings was converted into office use. Despite this, their historical material form was retained well. Recognising that its original use was residential; the proposal aimed to convert it back to this use by the provision of an array of 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and studio units. Part of this proposal revolved around undoing the office conversion attempting to reconstitute the original material form. Given the proximity and resultant sustainability to the University of Bristol, this accommodation was to be student.

Planning Process

Located in the Park Street and Brandon Hill Conservation Area, heritage was the principal planning concern from the outset of the application. Hence, a robust planning statement was constructed that recognised and discussed the heritage significance of the proximate locality. Followings extensive debated with the council’s Conservation Officer was undertaken to secure consent.
