Project Summary

  • Grade I listed Georgian Terrace, including 1920’s community hall to rear
  • Extensive pre-application and application negotiations with Bristol City Council
  • Continued regeneration of Portland Square, one of the finest examples of Georgian  architecture in the country
  • Delivery of 6 No. apartments and 2 No. town houses

Development Description

The proposal provides for the conversion of the Grade I Listed Georgian former town house with 1920’s community hall for conversion to 8 dwellings. The carefully designed renovation and regeneration of the Georgian building creates 6 No. apartments while the conversion of the 1920’s hall, which is also part of the Grade I listing, provides 2 No. family sized town houses.

Planning Process

The consented proposal was the culmination of 12 months extensive pre-application and application negotiations with Historic England and Bristol City Council in order to bring the building, which had been in office use, back into its original residential use. The statutory consultees relating to heritage were both content that the proposals retained the historic plan-form of the building and preserved the features of special architectural and historic interest.
