Description

The scheme involves the refurbishment of Queen Anne House, Grade II listed, fronting Queen Square. It also entailed the demolition and redevelopment of unsightly buildings from the 1970s and 1980s in King Street and Thunderbolt Square. The consented scheme provides Grade A office accommodation in a most sustainable location, but subject to significant constraints given proximity to Queen Square and the fine array of buildings within the immediate locality.

Planning Process

Planning permission was secured further to considerable pre-application negotiations and the re-submission of a previous application to facilitate further detailed design works in order to ensure the proposal positively responded to the prevailing historic context. The consented scheme comprised the delivery of a part 3/5 storey new build and internal/external alteration to the listed Queen Anne House. CSJ secured post-decision amendments via a S73 application to the original consent in order to facilitate the delivery of the floorspace as Grade A institutional office. The completed scheme now provides a significant enhancement to the surrounding sensitive heritage context.
