Develoment Description

This proposal was a high density mixed use scheme which aimed to deliver important housing as well as economic benefits to the locality. In total, it received consent for 210 residential units, 6,300m2 employment space, 11 live/work units, 417m2 active retail units, associated parking provision and public realm improvements. The design was high quality and bespoke with a heterogeneous array of scales and heights. Central to the design was the continuation of the character of the previous two phases to produce attractive residential provision alongside non-institutional modern office space.

Planning Process

This scheme was an unusual model for regeneration; the applicant wanted to create a successful and sustainable development that would be managed by them. Hence, a high degree of care was required in the planning process. Firstly, an outline master plan was submitted in 2010 which reflected the scale of the proposal. Following the success of this stage, a series of applications were submitted each tailored to a certain element of the project. The final approval was received in 2014. Now constructed, this locality in the Paintworks is a vibrant economic and social community.
