  • Innovative and interesting irregular design

  • Largest building project ever undertaken by a local authority

Development Description

With an exciting and distinct design, the scheme proposed the erection of a 1530-place school in place an existing and decaying school building. Alongside this building, a 101 space car parking provision as well as space for 200 cycles. In addition, a new ecological area, floodlit all-weather pitch and landscaping works were proposed. New access arrangements were proposed aimed at improving the safety and efficiency of the existing transport networks.

Planning Process

Considering the importance of the school site to the local community, CSJ ran extensive community and stakeholder engagement programs to avoid local conflict and assist in the positive reception of the scheme. This helped overcome North Somerset’s initial objections. Nevertheless, due to the scale of the project and its integrity to Nailsea, the application went to Planning Committee. Here, it was discussed and issued consent accordingly. CSJ worked thoroughly throughout the process and maintained an adaptability which allowed for successful negotiation of the application at the various stages.
