Development Description

The proposals comprised of the construction of a new five bay operational fire station together with training facilities for working at height, confined spaces and hot fire. The application included a new access off Durley Hill with associated car parking, circulation roads and landscaping. This proposal formed part of Avon Fire and Rescues’ ‘investing in the future’ programme which saw the amalgamation of the Brislington and Keynsham fire stations into a new modern station in a highly accessible location.

Planning Process

Securing planning consent required extensive negotiation with the council’s planning officers and required very special circumstances to be successfully demonstraed to overcome the green belt policy restriction for new development. The proposal has protected and maintained the most significant areas of the site through design changes during the application resulting in a landscpae buffer to the north and west of the site.
