Planning consent granted for ‘move on’ housing for homeless persons

Acting on behalf of Bristol City Council’s Housing Delivery Team, CSJ Planning has secured planning permission for affordable rented accommodation, otherwise known as ‘move on’ housing, on two sites in Bristol.

The accommodation, which will be funded through the Government’s ‘Move on’ fund, will provide affordable second stage housing for the homeless and those in hostel accommodation who are ready to leave this refuge accommodation but may not otherwise be in a position to access this next stage of housing.  A total of 14 dwellings for this specific use will be provided across the two sites in St Phillips and Knowle.

Working with Alec French Architects, CSJ Planning led the planning application process to develop the two sites, both of which comprised vacant commercial properties and ancillary residential accommodation.  Through the planning submission, CSJ demonstrated that the commercial units did not provide a valuable service to the local community; that there was no demand for their continued commercial use; and that the proposed residential accommodation was an appropriate alternative use for the buildings.

Construction works to implement the scheme are due to commence in early 2022.  When complete, the development will provide another valuable tenure of housing within Bristol that will enable people to transition from homelessness/hostel accommodation into independent living.
