Tintagel Castle

Tintagel Castle

CSJ Planning Consultants have been appointed by English Heritage, guardian of Tintagel Castle to act as planning advisors for the proposed new foot bridge running along the line of the original land bridge into the castle entrance. This project will allow today’s visitors to experience the drama of the original, now eroded, higher level crossing to the castle. The bridge will span 72 metres and will be 28 metres higher than the current access. Not only will it greatly enhance access to Tintagel Castle but it will also create thrilling new view points of the island, coastline and Atlantic seascape. It will create a step free access route to the island and will ease congestion. It is hoped it will open this important heritage site up to a much wider range of people and make their experience more enjoyable. The Castle is a Scheduled Monument sitting within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and on the site of both a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation. CSJ Planning Consultants will work with English Heritage and their design team to guide the planning strategy through to the preparation and submission of the planning application as well as Scheduled Ancient Monument clearance and the necessary SSSI consents. Jeremy Bladon, Director of CSJ Planning Consultants, stated “we are delighted to be working with English Heritage on this high profile legacy project. This is an exciting scheme within a highly sensitive environment which will need careful consideration of the impacts whilst delivering a major benefit to the sites offer as an internationally renowned heritage asset”.
