Police communications mast and operations base approved

Police communications mast and operations base approved

As part of CSJ’s ongoing work for Avon & Somerset Constabulary, an application for a 31 metre high mast has been approved at 400 Park Avenue, Aztec West by South Gloucestershire Council. The mast is essential to support the administration and operations base, (rather than a police station) which has occupied the former offices within the business park (Use Class B1). CSJ co-ordinated applications to re-organise the site layout consisting of; new cycle parking and refuse stores, adjusted car park layout; new fencing and recladding of the building. The mast is the final piece of equipment required and was justified in relation to location, context and its ’lightweight’ lattice design, blending with other estate infrastructure. CSJ responded to various representations during the application in relation to civil aviation, concerns of nearby residents, and issues of landscaping. The overall justification for the mast was a topographic analysis ensuring communication linkages to other parts of the city. With regard to the scale of Aztec West buildings, the nearby RAC tower and other telecommunications masts, the approved scheme was assessed and would not have a significant visual impact.
