St Ursula’s E-ACT New Primary School Development

St Ursula’s E-ACT New Primary School Development

Bristol City Council has resolved to grant planning permission and listed building consent for the new primary school at St Ursula’s, at its Development Control Committee meeting on 29th April 2015. The school will be funded by the EFA in a joint partnership with Bristol City Council and E-ACT Academy. The new school will be built by Kier Construction SW. The permission will be referred to the Secretary of State and formal permission is expected by the end of May. The permission brings to a culmination over 2 years of planning work, exploring options and ensuring that the existing Listed Building and Conservation Area is preserved and enhanced. The new 630 place school will be built to the rear of the site off a new driveway which will provide car parking and cycle parking and two new pedestrian entrances. The scheme will free up the existing former convent buildings (unsuitable for modern educational needs) for a future conversion for residential development and provide a separate setting for the Listed building as opposed to it being currently joined to the school. The new school will provide a shared space front courtyard within the site with modern facilities for waste recycling and PV’s on the roof. The new building will be a combination of brick, glass and timber cladding set within the retained and enhanced mature landscaped grounds. Also very importantly the scheme will provide a range of associated traffic management proposals on Brecon Road and a new annual Travel Plan. CSJ Planning Director Andrew Beard acted as planning agent to secure the planning permission on behalf of Kier. The Architects were Jestico & Whiles Associates Limited [Application references 15/00488/F and 15/00489/LA)
