New Bristol City Centre Fire Station Approved

New Bristol City Centre Fire Station Approved

CSJ Planning acting for Avon Fire & Rescue Service has secured planning permission at Temple Back for a new operational Fire Station to serve central Bristol which will provide modern facilities and significantly improve ongoing running costs as opposed to the existing dated 1970’s buildings. (reference 14/04396/F) One of the challenges was to develop a scheme working with AHR architects to enable a new station to be built whilst retaining an operational base on site. This has been achieved and will release the remainder of the site for redevelopment and relocation of the HQ office function. The scheme had to overcome flood zone issues at the rear of the site, loss of trees and urban design in relation to elevations and operational requirements. The application followed pre-application and stakeholder discussions and an early Conservation Area consent to demolish ensures that the project can be implemented swiftly in the spring. CSJ are continuing to act and advise in relation to conditions discharge. Andrew Beard (Director) said “This permission will start the process of redevelopment that will significantly enhance the Conservation Area and remove 1970’s negative buildings and at the same time provide excellent public sector facilities to the benefit of the whole community.”
