Block of 6 new apartments in Shepperton, Middlesex, allowed at appeal

CSJ Planning, acting on behalf of the Shepperton Group, have recently secured planning consent at appeal to demolish an existing two storey detached dwelling on Green Lane, Shepperton, Middlesex, and construct an extension to the adjacent block of apartments (Shepperton House) in its place. Quattro Architects initially submitted plans for this scheme back in June 2015, however following numerous changes, the planning officer remained unconvinced by the proposal and ultimately refused the scheme. The one reason for refusal cited overdevelopment, having excessive density, inadequate amenity space, insufficient parking provision and insufficient regard to the character of the residential properties along Green Lane to the detriment of the visual amenity. An appeal was lodged shortly after which was supported by a robust Statement of Case by CSJ Planning. The statement considered the highly sustainable location, adjacent to Shepperton Town Centre, previous appeal decisions in Shepperton and detailed policy interpretation to refute the Council’s claims. The Inspector found in favour of the Appellant in all aspects and allowed the appeal in July 2016. In his decision, the Inspector commented that “The proposed development would be of an acceptable design that adequately reflects the character of the buildings on either side and would make a positive contribution to the street scene”.
