CSJ Planning Consultants have secured Planning consent for the conversion and extension of a former motorcycle showroom within the vibrant and diverse neighbourhood of Stokes Croft, central Bristol. Produced by local architects Dittrichhudsonvasetti, the scheme proposes a mix of contemporary office workspace around a central café hub, with eight new residential apartments above. The works involve facade alterations to the original 1950’s structure complemented by a lightweight ‘floating’ roof extension, and respond sensitively to the core elements of the Stokes Croft Conservation Area. The consent followed a very constructive pre-application process with key stakeholders in Stokes Croft and St Pauls, who recognised the value of the development to the vitality and viability of the neighbourhood. Associate Director Lyn Jones commented “This is a well conceived conversion scheme that secures the re-use and refurbishment of this prominent vacant building, provides enhancement to the Conservation Area and could prove a cultural and commercial catalyst to the regeneration of lower Stokes Croft. We are delighted to deliver this consent for local employer Portland Brown”.
